About Singapore Water Polo
What started as a ruse to get our teenage delinquents off the streets to try putting their time into better use, soon translated into a national sport which has since managed to ignite the interests of the nation and its people in celebrations of each and every of its victory at the many international games.
Dominated then by pioneers in the 50s and 60s such as Kee Soon Bee and Tan Wee Chwee, we now boast of a stable of young aspiring players with the likes of Luo Nan, Yip Renkai and Eugene Teo who all possess ambitious aims of bringing water polo to a higher level.
To cultivate young talents, we host a variety of local tournaments to cater to a wide spectrum of school children from age 13 and above. Since 2008, we have introduced Flippa Ball, a modified version of water polo, to a much younger group of players starting from 6 years old.
Ever since we won the much coveted Gold Medal at the Asian Games in 1954, success came to us in more ways than one, with medals at the subsequent Games in later years. Moreover, our proudest achievement is our undefeated vie for the Gold Medal at the SEA Games since 1965 - we have managed to clinch our 23rd Gold Medal for water polo at the 25th SEA Games 2009 in Vientiane, Laos. Evidently, water polo in Singapore has indeed come a long way in establishing the success of today.
Today, water polo has also evolved to become the epitome of diligence, dedication, esprit de corps, perseverance and a can-do attitude of all our national players.
